Whitney Darrow Jr.

Whitney Darrow Jr. was one of the greatest of the New Yorker cartoonists. His brilliant, beautifully drawn, and very funny drawings appeared for years in that magazine. He was an artist, along with Peter Arno, Charles Addams, R. Taylor, Syd Hoff and a select few others, who defined the modern cartoon in that sophisticated magazine.

These selected examples are from the book, THE NEW YORKER ALBUM 1955-1965 FORTIETH ANNIVERSARY. The captions have been retyped for legibility.

Darrow died at age 89 in 1999.
